Job Description
ZonNet is a fast-growing digital transformation company, currently undergoing a significant scaling phase, with a remote-first work model that supports flexibility, autonomy, and high-performing distributed teams. We specialize in building enterprise-grade platforms, with a focus on the EdTech sector. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Backend Developer to join our remote-first team and support our growing operations. In this key role, you will work closely with the development team to build and maintain scalable backend systems, optimize performance, and ensure seamless integration in a distributed environment. As a core technical contributor, you will handle API development, database management, and initiatives that align with our scaling goals, all while championing best practices in remote collaboration and Laravel-based development.
Job Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust backend applications using Laravel as the primary framework, ensuring high performance, scalability, and security.
- Build and optimize RESTful APIs, integrate with frontend systems, and handle data processing for enterprise-grade platforms in the EdTech space.
- Manage databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) including schema design, query optimization, and data migration in a remote-first setup.
- Collaborate remotely with cross-functional teams using tools like Git, Slack, and Asana to implement features, troubleshoot issues, and deploy updates via CI/CD pipelines.
- Conduct code reviews, implement best practices for testing (unit, integration), and ensure compliance with coding standards in a distributed development environment.
- Optimize application performance, handle server-side logic, and integrate third-party services (e.g., payment gateways, authentication systems) with a focus on Laravel-specific features like Eloquent ORM and queues.
- Champion remote work policies, including asynchronous code collaboration, version control protocols, and tools to prevent bottlenecks and enhance productivity.
- Analyze system metrics to identify bottlenecks, provide insights on scalability, and recommend improvements for efficient remote operations.
Requirements
- 1-3 years of proven experience in backend development, ideally in remote or distributed teams, with strong expertise in Laravel.
- Solid knowledge of PHP, Laravel framework (including MVC architecture, routing, middleware), and related technologies like Composer and Artisan.
- Proficiency in database management (SQL/NoSQL), API development (REST/GraphQL), and version control systems (Git).
- Experience with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Heroku) and containerization (Docker) is a plus.
- Exceptional virtual communication skills, comfortable with video calls, chat platforms, and cross-cultural interactions in a remote setting.
- High organizational skills, attention to detail, and adaptability to evolving remote workflows.
